Generally considered to be the founder and first king of the medieval German star, known then as East Francia.
An avid hunter hence the epithet the Fowler.

As a young girl she was sent to Herford Abbey (in the Duchy of Saxony) where grandmother was Matilda was abbess. There her reputation for for beauty and virtue (and possibly her dowry) caught the attention of Duke Otto I of Saxony who married her to his son Henry.
Founded many religious institutions.
Her feast day is March 14.
